aquatinted etchings

While rehabilitating from my deafness i decided to try and do something different. I decided on aquatint etching.

etching is a process of taking a plate of wood and using a carving tool to gouge your picture into the wood. (with the positive and negative spaces flipped). Then rolling ink over the panel and pressing the panel into a piece of paper thus giving you a print.

The difference with aquatinting a etching and inking is that instead of using ink you use a alcohol based resin. this resin unlike ink allows slight color variation instead of black on white.

Deafness

In late 1792 i became incredibly ill. I eventually overcame my sickness at the cost of my hearing. during my recuperation i tried to make some some unique paintings called aquatinted etchings.

Painting Royalty

In 1783 I was commissioned to do a portrait of the Count of Floridablanca. I also became good friends with Crown prince Don Luis.

Out of these commissions and friendships my reputation grew until in 1799 I was named First Court Painter and given a huge salary.

Josefa Bayeu (Wife)

This is my beautiful "esposa" Josefa Bayeu. The sister of Francisco Bayeu at the royal acadamy of fine arts.


Her nickname is "pepa"

Tapistry Cartoons

 I not only worked on canvas but on "Tapiz" or tapestry  as well. Charles III of Spain first commissioned these tapestries. Later Charles IV of Spain commissioned tapestries from me as well.

Saturn devouering his son

As I have painted through the years, I have become increasingly "Demente". This has caused me to paint  the Black Paintings. The doctors say that it is the paint fumes, but they know "nada".

Fuendetodos,Arogon

'Saludos', this is my home town of Fuendetodos, Argon. I spent most of my childhood in this 'hermosa' town. It was a nice quiet town, ah the memories.
